Our Logo
Our logo draws inspiration from the Southern Cross, the outlines of the maps that direct our journey, and the five Sections of Scouts Australia. The fleur de lis, recognised as the universal emblem of Scouting, links us to Scouts globally. This symbol serves as the foundation for our National brand, our State brands, our Groups, and all other Scout-related endeavors.

Fees
The fee for our Scout Group consists of several components: a portion allocated to Scouts Australia for registration and insurance and a Group fee. The Group fee is utilised for the upkeep of our equipment and hall, as well as covering utilities, registrations, program supplies, and leader training. For information regarding fees, please reach out to our Group Leader Rebecca at Bec.Edwards@nsw.scouts.com.au
Active Kids Vouchers
Active and Creative Kids is a program by the NSW Government designed to assist families throughout the state in covering the expenses of enrolling their school-aged children in sports, recreational, creative, or cultural activities, such as Scouts. Scouts NSW is recognised as an approved provider for the Active and Creative Kids Voucher. When families redeem their Active and Creative Kids vouchers with Scouts NSW, the funds are applied to the costs associated with Scouting, making it easier for families to give their children the opportunity to participate in the Scout Program.
The Scout Shop
The online website offers a selection of uniforms and items available for purchase for both youth and adults at The Scout Shop.
Section Colours
Each age group are assigned a specific colour for their respective sections: Tan for Joeys, yellow for Cubs, green for Scouts, maroon for Ventures, and red for Rovers, which will also be reflected on their shirts and in the edges of their badges.
Uniform and Badge Placement
Youth members are expected to wear the complete uniform, which consists of a section-specific shirt, scarf, woggle, and in-closed shoes and navy blue shorts, pants or skirts. For formal events a light beige colour is required to be worn in place of the navy. Uniforms can be purchased from the Scout Shop. The location of badges on uniform can be found on the website here.
What are Spices
SPICES represent Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional, and Spiritual aspects. The six areas are collectively referred to as SPICES. Scouting aims to promote personal development across these six areas and the SPICES acronym serves as a helpful reminder of them. The educational goals achieved through Scouting are tailored to each section according to the SPICES framework.
Challenge areas
To help make sure that every program is exciting and diverse we use something called Challenge Areas. These areas are four main categories that guide us in planning our activities. By focusing on these Challenge Areas we can create a program that keeps everyone interested and involved. Whether it’s a Community Challenge, Outdoor Challenge, A Personal Growth Challenge or a Creative Challenge. There’s always something for everyone in Scouting.
Milestones
Scouts must take part in exciting activities over a period of 6 to 12 months to reach their milestones. These activities cover different challenge areas helping Scouts learn new skills and work together as a team. Each Scout gets a chance to participate, assist others and even take on leadership roles. This hands-on experience not only builds confidence but also teaches important values like teamwork and responsibility.
Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS)
The Outdoor Adventure Skills framework encourages young members to explore outdoor activities. Scouts can enhance their skills throughout their Scouting experience, beginning with basic skills and progressing to through the levels. There are 3 core areas of focus being bushcraft, bushwalking, camping and 6 Special areas of focus being alpine, cycling, vertical, aquatics, boating, and paddling. Skills range from beginner at Stage 1 and can advance to Stage 9. All Scout sections are encouraged to keep a personal logbook to track their activities like bushwalking, abseiling, and cycling. For OAS stages two and above, Scouts must show that their logbook is up-to-date and reflects their achievements related to the award.
Special Interest Areas (SIA)
The Special Interest Area framework promotes the exploration of both new and existing interests among Scouts. Each Scout undertakes a personally challenging project within one of the six designated Special Interest Areas: Adventure & Sport, Creating a Better World, Growth & Development, Arts & Literature, Environment, and STEM & Innovation. Scouts, whether working individually or in patrols, establish a goal, devise a plan, and strive to accomplish their objectives.
Additional Badge
Additional badges are available for youth to earn but are not required for youth to be able to achieved their peak award.
Peak Awards
Peak awards represent the highest level of accomplishment within each section of Scouting. To earn this award, Scouts must achieve Outdoor Adventure Skills, Special Interest Areas, and Milestones. Additionally, completion of a leadership course, an Adventurous Journey, and personal reflection is required. While it is not anticipated that every Scout will pursue or achieve this award, all are encouraged. Those interested in obtaining their peak award should consult with their leader at least 18 months prior to moving on to the next section.
We Need Your Help, Too!
Our youth programs are led by dedicated volunteer Section Leaders who have completed comprehensive training in youth leadership through the Scout Association. The administration and financial aspects of the Group are managed by the Group Support (Parents) Committee, which also oversees hall maintenance, fundraising efforts and more. Scouting is entirely volunteer-driven. While your child participates, we encourage you to join our community by becoming a Leader, contributing to the Group Support Committee, organizing activities, sharing your skills, or taking part in our fundraising events. To show appreciation for the commitment of our leaders, the Scout Group covers all membership fees for them.
No previous experience is required to become a Scout Leader. All Leaders participate in comprehensive training covering various aspects of youth leadership, program development, safety protocols, and other essential requirements. They are also provided with a wealth of program ideas to facilitate their initial efforts
